· Field Maintenance Plan 2010 ·
Prior to the Game / Home Team Responsibility
1) Drag the Infield if necessary. Rake Base Lines, Home Plate Area & Mound.
2) Thoroughly Brush & Clean the Base Holding Plate.
3) Lightly dampen the Infield Dirt if the Field looks dry. (managers discretion)
4) NEVER WATER THE MOUND UNTIL AFTER THE LAST GAME OR PRACTICE OF THE DAY.
5) Line the field: Foul Lines, Batter’s Boxes and Coach’s Boxes.
6) Place Base Tops on Base Plates
7) Setup table and scoreboard controller. Turn on the scoreboard.
After the Game / Visiting Team Responsibility
1) Clean up all trash (from The Field, Dugout and Bleacher Area.
2) Leave the bases in place to protect the Base Holding Plates.
3) Remove Bases - from the Base Holding Plate.
4) Brush the brick dust off of the grass and back onto the Infield & Mound area.
5) Rake & Drag the base paths and Plate area. (Drag in the direction the players run & Rake side-to-side, pulling dirt buildup away from the grass line, thus filling in grooves left by base runners.) Fill in holes and low areas and try to create a level surface around Home Plate & the Base paths.
6) Groom the Mounds:
¨ Rake and fill in the landing area and the hole in front of the Rubber. Pull dirt away from the grass edges and back up onto the mound area.
¨ Tamp (with the heavy tamping tool) both areas.
¨ Water until very slight runoff – Please, DO NOT cover Mound with tarp. Water Mound ONLY if last game of the day.
7) Thoroughly Water the entire Infield (including the Home Plate area) Please, Do NOT cover Home Plate with tarp.
8) Store the Tools: Bases, hoses, brushes and rakes go in the shed; drags are carried and placed, next to the shed. (Please, do not drag infield dirt onto the concrete. Please roll up the drags, and place next to the shed.) (All rakes, brushes, hoses, bases, etc. have a specific spot in the shed.) PLEASE LOCK ALL SHEDS, after use.
8) Close, lock and latch all gates, sheds and cages: - this is very important for vandalism and rabbit control.
9) If the last game of the day – put away scoreboard controller, table and turn off the scoreboard lights.
10) The more work we do after the practices and games, the more time will be spent on maintaining a quality field and environment for our players.
